Greening India Through Agroforestry

Supported by Zomato, this initiative promotes agroforestry across 3,500 acres involving 1,300 farmers, enhancing biodiversity, restoring degraded lands, improving livelihoods, and contributing to climate resilience through sustainable farming practices.

Introduction

The Greening India Through Agroforestry programme, implemented by CONARE with the support of Zomato, promotes sustainable land management by integrating trees with agricultural practices. The initiative aims to restore degraded landscapes while improving the livelihoods of farming communities.

Covering 3,500 acres and benefiting 1,300 farmers, the project contributes to environmental conservation, climate resilience, and long-term agricultural sustainability through agroforestry interventions.

Program Details

The Greening India Agroforestry Project, supported by Zomato, is being implemented in the Nagarkurnool and Wanaparthy Districts of Telangana with a vision to integrate agroforestry practices into sustainable agriculture. 3,500 acres of land have been dedicated by 1300 farmers for this initiative, marking a significant commitment to ecological restoration and livelihood enhancement. The project promotes tree-based farming systems where timber and fruit-bearing species, particularly mango and timber-based varieties, are cultivated alongside traditional crops. This integrated approach improves soil fertility, enhances water retention, and diversifies income streams, while also contributing to carbon sequestration—making agroforestry a vital strategy for combating climate change. By combining cereals, pulses, and vegetables with tree plantations, households benefit from improved food security and reduced vulnerability to erratic rainfall, ensuring long-term productivity of farmlands.
